The Deaf Wellness Center produces many scholarly publications as well as other educational materials (films, curricula) in our areas of expertise. Electronic copies of most of our publications can be obtained by contacting Robert Pollard. Just specify which publications you want, from among those listed here.

Mental Health Interpreting: A Mentored Curriculum is a textbook and accompanying video (VHS or DVD) of interpreting vignettes, designed to teach spoken language interpreters and sign language interpreters how to work more effectively in mental health service settings. Further information and ordering instructions can be found here. We also have a number of publications on the topic of mental health interpreting.

My Body, My Responsibility is a 62 minute video (VHS or DVD) designed to teach deaf women of all ages important information about sexual development, menstruation and related hygiene, pregnancy and birth, pregnancy prevention, and how to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV infection. The film features dialogue in American Sign Langauge, a spoken English vocal track, and English captions (subtitles). Further information and ordering instructions can be found here.

We also have produced two Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills training films. DBT is a form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals with emotional regulation and other matters. Both films feature dialogue in American Sign Langauge, a spoken English vocal track, and English captions (subtitles). Opposite Action: An Adaptation from the Deaf Perspective deals with "opposite action" a DBT skill useful in overcoming unhealthy emotional and behavioral habits. Practicing Radical Acceptance: An Adaptation from the Deaf Perspective deals with "radical acceptance," a DBT skill useful in coming to terms with life's tragedies and challenges. Further information and ordering instructions can be found by contacting Robert Pollard or by clicking on the film titles above. For further information on DBT research being conducted at the Deaf Wellness Center, contact Amanda O'Hearn
