Content Outline
This session strives to provide a theoretic overview and hands on application of adult learning in the context of health professions education. The discussion of theory associated with adult learning will illuminate the interaction between what is known about adult learners and the context of learning and the learning process, by highlighting major contemporary ideas associated with adult learning. The second part of this session will apply adult learning ideas through examining classroom and clinic case examples as a way of providing practical tools for enhancing teaching and learning practices in the health professions.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the workshop, the participant will:
- Describe what is known about adult learners, the role of context in adult learning and the learning process associated with learning in adulthood.
- Identify and apply basic adult learning strategies in their instructional effort.
