Content Outline
Are you tired of giving the same lecture year after year? Is it annoying when students fall asleep (or do not attend) lectures? Would you like to get students beyond the 'facts' so that they could actually apply knowledge in real-world settings? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes," then Team-Based Learning might be for you! Team-Based Learning is a powerful method of teaching that combines the interactivity of small-group learning with the efficiency of large group classroom teaching. It is suitable for any audience from ten to several hundred learners, and has been used in undergraduate and graduate education in a variety of fields, including business, basic sciences, law, dentistry, and medicine. In this workshop, Paul Haidet MD MPH, one of the pioneers of Team-Based Learning in medical education, will introduce audience members to Team-Based Learning in a format that uses the method as the major teaching strategy. Audience members will be able to experience the energy and excitement of the method both from the student and the teacher's perspective. Dr Haidet will also be available for subsequent consultations with faculty who want to try out the method in their own teaching.
