Application Process

Applications to the University of Rochester Emergency Medicine Residency Program by allopathic and osteopathic medical candidates will be accepted ONLY through the Association of American Medical College 's (AAMC) Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

In addition to the Dean's letter, we require (at minimum):

  • One emergency medicine (CORD/SLOR) letter of recommendation (Preference of 2 SLOR's)
  • Two letters from the faculty members of your choice

Please remember to contact the USMLE and authorize the release of your scores to the program.

Candidates selected for interviews will have an opportunity to interact with full-time faculty, part-time faculty, and residents.

Upon selection for an interview, we will request that you give us 2 dates (at minimum) from our available dates that are convenient for you. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule; however please anticipate at least 2 weeks for a response to an interview request, based on the number of responses we are managing. We interview on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with occasional Saturday availability. We are happy to help cover a portion of the cost of a single night of hotel accommodation for our invited interviewees.

In order to appreciate the full spectrum of the University of Rochester, we ask that you arrive one day early to attend the resident-hosted University of Rochester Welcome Dinner. This event allows you the most access to residents. If you interview on a Tuesday, attending the pre-interview dinner is critical given reduced resident availability on Tuesdays.

We encourage second looks and shadowing opportunities, these can be arranged through our Program Coordinator, Jessica Moriarty.

We will be using electronic mail to communicate with applicants. This will include all invitations for interviews. We ask that you check your electronic mail frequently. All questions should be directed to EM_Residency@urmc.rochester.edu or by calling (585) 463-2940.
