Welcome from Program Director
At the University of Rochester Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program, we strive to offer training of the highest caliber. We offer a four-year residency accredited by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and approved by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).
Our residency program provides meaningful clinical experience covering the breadth and depth of the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. There are currently 32 residents in the program, 8 selected each year. We look for residents who are not only capable and intelligent but empathetic, caring, passionate and fun to work with. We take our residency family very seriously and intend to have a lot of fun while we are providing excellent care, teaching, and learning.
We care for our residents deeply and are committed to maintaining an inclusive, supportive and open environment to promote learning and confidence. As part of our efforts, we adhere to and surpass work hours regulations including abandonment of the traditional 24 hour call. We believe this and other schedule initiatives create a schedule that is conducive to both successful training and family life.
We are focused on education - we have dedicated (protected) educational time on Thursday mornings from 8:45 to 12 noon during which residents receive lectures built around the core curriculum and learning objectives, problem-based learning sessions, research curriculum, and OB and GYN simulation & skills sessions. The fourth morning lecture is run by the residents themselves who decide on topics and give the lectures to their fellow residents. Outside of formal didactic time, residents are assigned to systems based learning activities QA committees, safety committees, team training and spontaneous simulation sessions on the floor.
We work with ED & FM residents and paramedic and nursing trainees on L&D for an integrative educational experience. Faculty specializing in pelvic pain, pediatric GYN, vulvar disorders, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and family planning interact with the residents on specialty rotations and in resident continuity clinics providing a broad experience in all areas of OB-GYN in a busy clinical environment. More than 5,000 deliveries and 5,000 surgical cases are performed each year at our two clinical sites.
Throughout our site you will find additional information that will help you learn more about the University of Rochester and opportunities for our OB-GYN residents.
