The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Rochester Medical Center provides inpatient rehabilitation services, consultations, outpatient physiatrist (PM&R physician) care, neuropsychological testing, physical and occupational therapies for adults and children.
The department consists of faculty board certified in PM&R, Electrodiagnostics, Pain Management and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), a Neuropsychologist, a residency program with 12 residents in a four year program, nurses specially trained in rehabilitation nursing and pediatrics, physical, occupational and recreation therapists, speech pathologists, social worker, staff and volunteers.
The Acute Rehabilitation Unit at SMH (5-1200) is a 20-bed adult and pediatric unit accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), the agency responsible for setting the standards for superior rehabilitative care. We are the only CARF accredited Spinal Cord System of Care in the region. The unit has been recognized for high HCHAPS (patient satisfaction) scores.
