Relocating to Rochester
The University maintains two major services to support graduate-housing needs. The University Apartments Office administers the graduate housing units in six different complexes. The Community Living Program provides students, faculty, and staff computerized off-campus housing listings, tenant counseling, resource information and referrals.
There are other non-University online searches you can explore for local housing and apartment rental. The Renters Guide offers a searchable database for several areas of greater Rochester. Apartments.com also supplies local classifieds when a search is performed. Clicking on the Renters Guide and Apartments.com links will open a new window.
Students, especially international students, without housing assignments should plan to arrive 2-4 weeks before classes begin to look for off-campus housing and purchase furniture and other items. To rent an apartment, you must be prepared to pay a security deposit and the first (and possibly last) month's rent before you can move in.
