Rochester is located in Upstate New York, between Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes region. The University of Rochester is situated on the Genesee River, located two miles from downtown Rochester. The City of Rochester and its surrounding suburbs are home to roughly one million residents.
The city has its own orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic, and numerous musical events. Many of which are free and available through the University's world-famous Eastman School of Music. Rochester possesses a number of established commercial and non-commercial theater groups, a variety of museums, the University's Memorial Art Gallery, and the George Eastman House, the home of one of the world's major film and print collections.
The area surrounding Rochester offers many outdoor activities, including water sports, camping, hiking, and down hill and cross country skiing.
Nearby cities include: New York, Boston, Toronto, Montreal, Philadelphia, Washington D.C.
