Education and Training Opportunities

Fellowships and Grants

There are numerous fellowships and grants available nationally and through the University.

The University of Rochester School of Arts, Sciences and Engineering maintains a great fellowships database, searchable by career level, dollar amount, citizenship, demographic, gender, submission type and discipline.

The Office for Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs (GEPA) maintains a SharePoint site (requires URMC domain log-in) with additional funding opportunity search sites. The site is also a repository for other useful information related to applying for fellowships such as how-to resources, samples of funded applications and information on Responsible Conduct of Research, Institutional Environment and Student Activities.

GEPA also offers individual support, such as proof-reading and help navigating the application process, to trainees applying for fellowships. Email Sharon McCullough for additional information.

myIDP from Science Careers

The Individual Development Plan (IDP) concept is commonly used in industry to help employees define and pursue their career goals. In 2003, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) proposed an IDP framework for postdoctoral fellows in the sciences. Expanding on that framework, myIDP is a unique, web-based career-planning tool tailored to meet the needs of PhD students and postdocs in the sciences.
