  • Zhejiang University (ZU) is located in the coastal city of Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, which is 180 km from Shanghai, in the southeast of China.  This region is viewed as China's "Silicon Valley" (http://newsinfo.iu.edu/news/page/normal/6917.html).

  • Shanghai Jiao-Tong University School of Medicine, formerly known as Shanghai Second Medical College, was established in 1952 and merged with Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2005—after which it was renamed Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
  • SJTU has been consistently ranked among the top universities in China and is considered one of the top ten educational institutions in China, according to the most recent listing by netbig.com (it is ranked 7th).
  • SJTUSM is the largest medical school in the country.  It has 5,100 students, including 800 graduate students, 3,700 undergraduates and 2,350 continuing education students.  Existing partnerships include UNMC and USF.
  • The affiliated hospital, Rui Jin Hospital, was established in 1907; it has 1,774 beds and a staff of over 3,300 persons and is considered one of the top 3 clinical research institutions in China.
