Overview |
|
Dr. Brown's interest in medicine grew out of many stories she heard from missionary doctors and nurses who stayed in her home when she was growing up, as well as her mother's stories of her own time as a nurse in Mexico. Her first international experience in the Dominican Republicas a high school senior further sparked her interest in becoming a physician and working with underserved populations. After college, her interest in global health led her to enter medical school in Beer-Sheva, Israel, in a collaborative program of Ben Gurion University of the Negev and Columbia University. After medical school, she pursued an MPH in refugee studies at Columbia. She focused her residency practice on refugees and maternal child health care. During residency, she traveled to Honduras and Haiti as part of the Global Health Track and spent extra time in Obstetrics. During her chief resident year, she continued to focus on the Somali refugees in Rochester and completed her MPH thesis on prenatal and obstetrical care beliefs of Somali women. In 2007, she joined the faculty of the residency, where she has a busy clinical and obstetric practice at Highland Family Medicine, as well as being involved in precepting residents, journal club for third-year residents, and predoctoral education. In that caapacity, she is the advisor to the Family Medicine Interest Group and coordinator of Family Medicine electives. |
