Prior to attending medical school, Lois Van Tol, MD, raised five children, taught childbirth classes and practiced as a home birth midwife in Memphis, Tennessee. After completing medical school and residency at the University of Tennessee and a Maternal Child Health fellowship in Oak Park, Illinois, she worked in rural Wisconsin for 8 years. While in Wisconsin, she organized a series of Maternity Care Conferences for Amish midwives and provided medical backup services for the midwives. Special interests include colposcopy, OB ultrasound, and breastfeeding. Lois is a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, Physicians for Human Rights, American Academy of Family Physicians, and Physicians for a National Health Program. She has spent time in Haiti working at a rural health clinic and enjoys working with the many refugee patients at the Family Medicine Center. She makes increasingly difficult attempts to keep up with her very active children and loves being a new grandma. Lois lives with her husband in the 19th Ward. |
