Overview

Steve Schultz, MD, became Program Director in May 2002, having joined the faculty on a part time basis in 1999. He is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and completed his MD in the Brown-Dartmouth program in 1992. Upon completing the Rochester residency program, he served as chief resident, and then spent a month in Kazan as part of a medical education exchange program.

His first job as a family physician was at Woodward Health Center, a federally funded community health center, where he practiced for five years and participated in the National Health Service Corps loan repayment program. Steve served as the medical director for Elisha House, a community hospice for AIDS patients for seven years. He has been involved in the AAFP since serving on a national commission as a medical student and was on the NYSAFP Board of Directors for two years. He continues to serve on the NYSAFP Commission on Leadership.

Steve brings an infectious enthusiasm to his projects; a particular area of interest is international health, and he began an International Health Track (IHT) for the residency program during his first year as program director. Steve lives in Rochester's 19th ward with wife, Maeve Cullinane, and their children, Ben, Sarah, and Abigail. They are both active in the Rochester Friends (Quaker) Meeting. In his spare time he enjoys tinkering and puttering, hiking, writing, and reading aloud with his family.
