Finger Lakes Regional Resource Center
Overview of Finger Lakes RRC
In 2002–2003, Federal funding was allocated to support planning and infrastructure development to prepare New York State healthcare systems to respond to bioterrorism, outbreaks of infectious diseases, and other public health threats and emergencies.
This resulted in the identification of 8 Regional Resource Centers (excluding 3 similar centers in New York City), including Strong Memorial Hospital, Champlain Valley Physician Hospital, Erie County Medical Center, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, University - Hospital / SUNY Health Science Center, Westchester Medical Center, Albany Medical Center and University Hospital Stony Brook.
- The 8 Regional Resource Centers in New York State coordinate planning and develop infrastructure needed to prepare healthcare systems within their respective region for public health emergencies including bioterrorism.
- Each RRC is developing a regional inventory of resources, workforce training needs, and facilities in order to identify and address current gaps in the regional disaster response capacity.
- A major focus of the RRC relates to enhancing and refining regional plans to improve surge capacity of the health care system. This includes hospitals, home care, long-term care, emergency management services, and emergency management offices.

The Finger Lakes RRC (based at Strong Memorial Hospital) supports 17 hospitals in a 9 county area that covers Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, Yates, Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben Counties.
