Research Opportunities by Investigative Approach:Molecular Biology and Genetics |
Protein Structure and Function | |
|
The 21st century heralds an extraordinary new era in the life sciences. Advances in genomics and bioinformatics have greatly simplified our approaches to molecular biology and genetics. With the human, mouse, and rat genomes in hand, it is now feasible to apply broad-based approaches to examine disease-specific gene regulation, expression, and function. Such an approach allows investigators to survey a extraordinary amount of information in a relatively short period of time. This in turn provides an unprecedented illumination of basic mechanisms underlying pathophysiological processes which can in some cases be directly applied to human populations through an analysis of disease-related genes. Many of our faculty are using these cutting edge approaches to further our understanding of human disease.
