We are interested in seeing how well services help teens who have some stress and depressive feelings compared with those who don’t have those feelings.
The Inspiring Possibilities for Teens study will review youths’ development and family functioning to compare how girls are doing with and without services. The program is designed to prevent depression in teens, and the study will look at how well the services help teens who have some stress and depressive feelings compared with those who don’t have those feelings.

Additional Study Information
If you and your teen agree to take part in the study and she meets eligibility criteria the following will happen: If eligible, we will carry out 7 visits with the teen in your care. Each of the visits will last between two and three hours. At each visit with the teen in your care she will be asked about such things as her feelings, her views about herself and her development, the relationships between her and people in her life, and the stresses she faces. The information will be collected through interviews and computerized assessments. Teens will be paid in gift cards for these visits. We will ask the teen in your care to provide samples of saliva to measure stress hormones for two days after 3 visits. These collections will be done at your home, and we will pick them up from your home. Teens will be paid in gift cards for these samples. If eligible, you will be asked to complete 3 visits. During your visits you will be interviewed and asked to complete measures asking about your family home, the teen’s history, her functioning, sources of stress and supports in the family environment, and familial relationships. The caregiver will be paid for their time for these visits.
Teens who have some stressful feelings may be eligible for additional one on one support meetings. We provide transportation and childcare if needed for all visits. Your answers will be kept confidential.
