William J. Hall, M.D., Director of the Center for Healthy Aging at Highland Hospital was quoted in a January 26 article distributed by Reuters about the benefits of aerobic and resistance exercises for the elderly.
According to a study by researchers from Queens University and Columbia University, older adults who had participated in both resistance and aerobic exercise had lower levels of insulin resistance, an age-related condition that often precedes diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Hall provided his perspective that bias against older people may be keeping some seniors from exercise.
