Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, and it gives you the opportunity to help other people, something that can give you a lot of personal gratification and satisfaction. Volunteering at Highland Hospital offers a chance to meet new people while helping us create a hospital that is known for its excellent customer service... a hospital where caring comes first.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways you can help make a difference at Highland Hospital.

Volunteer to:

  • Work at the main information desk or in the gift shop
  • Help patients and families with directions and help transport them through the hospital
  • Provide office support or volunteer to help in the mail room
  • Assist in the Medical Records, Family Medicine, Oncology, or Pharmacy Departments
  • Run errands or deliver flowers to patients

Volunteer Benefits

Volunteers are a vital part of Highland's patient care services and in addition to gaining valuable experience, possibly earning college credit and contributing to Highland's caring atmosphere, volunteers can receive dental unit discounts and educational programs discount.

Volunteers will also receive free parking and a free meal pass (if you work a 4-hour shift or more).

How to Become a Volunteer at Highland Hospital

  • Please call 341-6759 to schedule an interview with a volunteer coordinator.
  • Ask to have an application sent to you in the mail, or print the application below and bring it with you on the day of your scheduled interview:

    Volunteer application

  • Additional paperwork, including a Physician Health Certification and a Health Requirement Form, will be given to you at your interview. You will need to have these forms completed before you start volunteering.
  • After the interview, the coordinator, in agreement with the volunteer, will recommend an appropriate placement

What you need to know about volunteering at Highland Hospital

  • Volunteers are provided comprehensive training. Volunteers are often expected to work independently with little supervision.
  • Volunteers must be comfortable in a hospital setting and adhere to our Five Highland Promise Standards .
  • Volunteers must be able to communicate clearly and speak fluent English
  • We ask our adult volunteers to commit to one year of service, working one shift a week of 3-4 hours
  • College and high school students need to be able to commit to one semester, for 3-4 hours a week.  High School students need to be at least 14 years of age and have a valid working permit if under the age of 18.
  • Exact hours of volunteer shifts may vary depending on specific assignments, but can start as early as 7:00am and end at 8:00pm, evening and weekend shifts are also available.
