For Nurses
Nursing Awards & Designations
The nurses of the Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Highland Hospital have received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence. This designation by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) specifically recognizes the nation's top hospital critical care nursing teams. It recognizes high-quality standards, exceptional care of patients and their families, and excellence in maintaining healthy work environments.

Highland Hospital was originally awarded a NICHE designation in 2006. The hospital has recently received re-designation for 2008-2010.
Started in 1992, NICHE is a national geriatric nursing program of The John A. Hartford Foundation Institute for Geriatric Nursing. The program is focused on supporting nursing's pre-eminent role in the care of hospitalized older patients. Structured training, improved protocols, and broad implementation of best practices help us to provide the best of care for our older patients throughout the hospital. We're one of the top-ranked geriatric hospitals in the country.
