Background |
I received my BSN from St. John Fisher College in 2006. I am currently pursuing a Master's Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner at St. John Fisher College and expect to graduate in 2011. |
Time at Highland Hospital |
I started as a PCT in 2005 and transitioned to the RN role when I completed my nursing degree in 2006. |
Career Path at Highland Hospital |
I have always worked on East 5. My experiences as a tech made me want to work as a nurse on this unit. The transition from tech to nurse was wonderful and I have always had a great support system throughout my time here. I have been very satisfied with my experiences so far and am looking forward to pursuing some of the many opportunities Highland has to offer. |
My Dominant Personality Traits |
I love a challenge and I love variety and this unit gives me the chance to experience both. I am open to new things and think I am a good communicator, which is important on any nursing unit. |
About the Women's Short Stay Surgical Unit |
East 5 is a med/surg unit specializing in women's surgery. We see mainly gyn and gyn/onc surgical patients. We treat gyn/onc patients throughout all stages of their disease, which unfortunately sometimes includes end of life care. We administer chemotherapy and care for patients receiving radiation therapy. We also care for short stay (23-hour) surgical patients. We specialize in the care of peritoneal dialysis patients while they are in the hospital. We see a variety of medical patients when the surgical census is low, which really makes this a diverse unit to work on. We treat a variety of patients, with a variety of medical and surgical needs. This is one of the many reasons I enjoy working on East 5. |
