Evarts Joint Center
About Us
The Evarts Joint Center team includes a network of orthopaedists, geriatricians, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, social workers, and occupational therapists all specializing in total joint care. We work closely with referring physicians to guide each patient from presurgery education through postsurgery rehabilitation and recovery. And, our hospitalist physicians will coordinate every aspect of your inpatient care if your primary care physician is not on staff at Highland. Our hip and knee replacement program has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for health care quality from the Joint Commission, a national, not-for-profit health accrediting organization. The Evarts Joint Center is the only program in Rochester to earn this designation for knee and hip replacement. Our commitment to quality is evident in our standardized patient care processes, the investment we have made in operating rooms tailored to joint replacement procedures, the special training our staff undergoes to assure the care and comfort of our patients, and our focus on quality assurance processes and standardized patient care protocols that deliver consistently excellent outcomes.
Some of the attributes that make the Evarts Joint Center special:
- Our orthopaedic surgeons are some of the most experienced and highly trained joint replacement specialists in the region. They are knowledgeable in the latest research, surgical techniques, and implant technology.
- We perform the highest volume of primary and revision joint reconstruction surgeries in the region. Studies over the last 20 years have shown that hospital and physician volume for certain procedures has a direct link to patient outcomes.
- Three state-of-the-art operating rooms house some of the most advanced equipment available today for use in orthopaedic surgery including a laminar flow air-handling system to reduce the risk of post-operative infection and computer-aided surgery (CAS) technologies.
- Our operating room and post-anesthesia care unit are staffed by board-certified and board-eligible physician anesthesiologists. They work with your care team to prescribe continuous pain control to keep you comfortable and to promote early mobility.
- Our 18-bed dedicated inpatient unit is devoted exclusively to the care and comfort of joint surgery patients. That means patients get an optimum environment to rehabilitate after total hip, knee, or shoulder surgery along with a highly specialized care team.
- Nurses who specialize in the care of joint patients are fully attuned to both your physical and emotional needs. They are especially knowledgeable about the unique needs of the elderly.
- Our Geriatrics Program at Highland Hospital has been ranked among the top in the nation. Our geriatricians consult and co-manage medically complex joint care cases in the elderly.
- In cases involving arthritis or rheumatism, the area's leading rheumatological specialists will provide consultation.
- Our physical and occupational therapists are trained to choose the best activities and exercises for each individual. They'll show you how assistive devices, joint protection, and energy conservation techniques can be used during activities of daily living.
