Referrals

To make an appointment with a neurologist, you should have a referral from either your primary care physician or another specialist.

• Many insurance plans require that you get a referral prior to seeing a specialist.

• The physician who knows you is best equipped to choose the specialist that's right for your health problem. It's not always obvious and a misdirected self-referral could delay your access to appropriate treatment.

When Stroke Strikes,
Think F.A.S.T.

Face. Arm. Speech. Time.

Stroke can be subtle. But even mild attacks demand immediate medical attention. Use the FAST test if you think you or someone you know has suffered a stroke.

Facial weakness	Does the face look lopsided? Ask the person to smile.
Arm weakness	Does one arm drift down? Ask the person to raise both arms.
Speech problems	Does their speech sound strange? Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Can they do it without slurring words?
Time	Don't waste it. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
