NYS Designated Stroke Center

Review on NYS Department of Health Site

When Stroke Strikes,
Think F.A.S.T.

Face. Arm. Speech. Time.

Stroke can be subtle. But even mild attacks demand immediate medical attention. Use the FAST test if you think you or someone you know has suffered a stroke.

Facial weakness

Does the face look lopsided? Ask the person to smile.

Arm weakness

Does one arm drift down? Ask the person to raise both arms.

Speech problems

Does their speech sound strange? Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Can they do it without slurring words?

Time

Don't waste it. Call
9-1-1 immediately.
