Heidi B. Schwarz, M.D., Director
Dr. Heidi Schwarz is known throughout Rochester and the Finger Lakes region for her broad clinical expertise. She is a board certified neurologist who maintains an active general neurology practice with subspecialty interests in stroke and movement disorders. As director of the Stroke Center, Dr. Schwarz oversees administrative issues to ensure delivery of high quality stroke care. She remains an active stroke neurologist seeing patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Michael Cunningham, D.O., Associate Director
Dr. Michael Cunningham is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician who maintains an active presence in the Highland Emergency Department. He is an integral member of the Stroke Center Team and brings his special expertise to the urgent management of acute stroke. When minutes count, rapid and reliable evaluation in the Emergency Department is a crucial first step in delivering state-of-the-art stroke care.
Leslie Lee, M.D.
Dr. Leslie Lee is a board-certified neurologist who has active subspecialty interests in clinical neurophysiology and stroke. She has performed research in functional neuroimaging.
Anthony Maroldo, M.D.
Dr. Anthony Maroldo is a board-certified neurologist who maintains active subspecialty interests in clinical neurophysiology and stroke.
Jill Miller, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Jill Miller is a board-certified neurologist who maintains active subspecialty interests in neuromuscular disease, clinical neurophysiology, and stroke. Her basic science research has included studies in the genetics and molecular biology of muscle disease.
Garrett Riggs, Ph.D., M.D.
Dr. Garrett Riggs is a board-certified neurologist who maintains active subspecialty interests in stroke, cognitive disorders, brain tumors, and neuro-critical care. He has received numerous awards from residents and medical students for teaching. His research interests include the neurologic basis of behavior, neurolinguistics, and consciousness.
Brian Tan, M.D.
Dr. Brian Tan is a board-certified radiologist who has subspecialty training in neuro-radiology. As Chief of Neuro-radiology at Highland, Dr. Tan's expertise in brain CT and MRI is an essential component to care of stroke patients at Highland.
Paul Twydell, D.O.
Dr. Paul Twydell is a board-certified neurologist who maintains active subspecialty interests in stroke, clinical neurophysiology, and neuromuscular disease.
Darlene Welsh, M.S., A.P.R.N., F.N.P.-C.
Darlene Welsh has been a Registered Nurse since 1976 and has extensive experience in Intensive Care Nursing, with national certifications in both Critical Care Nursing and Infusion Nursing. Most recently, she completed her graduate degree as a Nurse Practitioner at St. John Fisher College. Darlene tracks all patients seen by the Highland Stroke team in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, and is active in clinical patient care and in teaching patients about stroke prevention and risk reduction.
