Highland Hospital's Sixth Annual Gala to Benefit Growing Gynecologic Oncology Program

Highland Hospital’s sixth annual gala themed "An Evening of the Arts" will be held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 10. The evening will feature the Grammy Award-winning Ying Quartet and Gap Mangione and The New Big Band. Proceeds will benefit the hospital’s rapidly growing Gynecologic Oncology program.

The Ying Quartet will highlight the program with a performance, including special entertainment by Eugene P. Toy, M.D., a Juilliard-trained pianist and leading gynecologic oncology surgeon in the Rochester area. The Ying Quartet won a Grammy award in 2005 for a collaborative recording with the Turtle Island String Quartet, and it received Grammy nominations in 2007 and 2010. The ensemble is the quartet-in-residence at the Eastman School of Music.

Throughout the evening, Gap Mangione and The New Big Band will perform jazz, swing and popular music.

Another highlight will be presentation of the Highland Foundation Heritage Award. The highest honor awarded by the Foundation, the Heritage Award honors individuals or organizations that play a significant role in the life of Highland and the community.Recipients are selected based on their gifts of time, talent and financial support.

Eileen Grossman of Pittsford will be this year’s recipient for her longstanding commitment to fighting gynecologic cancer and assisting those affected by it and other cancers in our community. Grossman co-founded The Cancer Wellness Spa of Greater Rochester, which provides manicures, make-up presentations, wig and scarf demonstrations, nutrition services, light exercises and snacks to women undergoing cancer treatment at Highland and Unity’s St. Mary’s Campus. In addition, the program provides crafts for children in the outpatient treatment room at Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Grossman helps lead the annual Ovarian Cancer 5k Run/Walk as well.

The Gynecologic Oncology Program at Highland is one of the leading providers of minimally invasive (robotic) gynecologic oncology surgery in the state. Highland has a dedicated inpatient unit and specially trained staff to care for women with uterine, ovarian and cervical cancers. In 2011, US News & World Report recognized Highland as one of the Best Regional Hospitals for the quality of its gynecology specialty services.
