New Surgeon Joins URMC Division of Colorectal Surgery

Fergal J. Fleming, M.B., B.Ch. B.A.O., M.D., F.R.C.S., has joined the medical staff at Highland Hospital. He is Assistant Professor of Surgery and Oncology in the URMC Division of Colorectal Surgery. Dr. Fleming - a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - will provide surgical care to patients at Highland and Strong Memorial hospitals.

Dr. Fleming has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in international journals and has earned distinguished prizes and awards including a surgical research fellowship in 2002, and the Irish Journal of Medical Science Doctor Award, Surgical Section in 2004.  He was also awarded a diploma in Cancer Chemoprevention from the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, Md., in 2007.

Dr. Fleming earned his medical degree from the University College of Dublin, Ireland in 1998. His surgical residency included extensive training in general, vascular and hepatobiliary surgery as well as his dedicated training in colorectal surgery. He is a member of many professional organizations including the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland.

Originally from Tipperary, Ireland, Dr. Fleming lives in Pittsford.

Dr. Fleming will see patients at URMC Surgery Center, 180 Sawgrass Drive, Suite 220.
