Strong Health Midwifery Group Changes Name to URMC Midwifery Group
August 08, 2011
The Strong Health Midwifery Group has updated its name to URMC Midwifery Group to better represent the practice’s affiliation with the University of Rochester Medical Center. The URMC Midwifery Group will continue to offer the same services it has provided to the community during the last 30 years.
The practice is comprised of 10 certified nurse-midwives (CNM’s). They all have master’s degrees and are educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery. In addition, the CNM’s in the URMC Midwifery Group are full-time faculty of the OBGYN Department of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
The midwives specialize in providing care for women across the lifespan from puberty through post-menopause. They provide a full array of primary health care services, including routine women’s gynecological exams, contraceptive services, managing common female health concerns along with prenatal care, childbirth and postpartum care.
The midwives also have expertise in managing adolescent pregnancies and oversee the Rochester Adolescent Maternity Program (RAMP), which provides medical and social work services to pregnant teens. Their philosophy is to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care with a personalized, family-centered approach.
All of the University of Rochester Medical Center’s care providers were united under the name "Strong Health" until 2007 when the medical center began identifying its affiliates with the name "URMC."
Since 2000, the URMC Midwifery Group has provided its obstetrical services at Highland Hospital’s Family Maternity Center. The midwives, who are independent providers, saw more than 11,000 outpatient visits and delivered more than 500 babies at Highland in 2010.
They practice in three community locations, including 905 Culver Road, 500 Red Creek Drive, and 2300 West Ridge Road in Greece.
