Free EMS Seminar Feb. 5 Focuses on Overdose Patients

Highland Hospital invites local Emergency Medical Service (EMS) crews and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to its upcoming seminar, “Toxicology and the ‘Golden Hour’,” starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 in the Collins Auditorium at Highland (1000 South Avenue). The event and parking are free, but registration is required at (585) 341-6709.

Timothy J. Wiegand, M.D., Director of Medical Toxicology and Toxicology Consult Service at the University of Rochester Medical Center, will discuss the role EMS personnel plays in evaluating and treating intoxicated patients or patients who have overdosed. Dr. Wiegand’s presentation will focus on causes of intoxication or overdose, potential treatments and the complications that may arise from the use of common drugs or antidotes to treat these patients en route to the hospital.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits apply. Participants also will receive dinner catered by Dinosaur Bar-B-Que.
