Free Mammography Screenings Oct. 11

UR Medicine Breast Imaging offers screenings to uninsured, underinsured women 40 and over

Avice O'Connell, M.D., Director of Highland Breast Imaging.
The center offers free mammography screenings to ensure
every woman in our area has access to potentially life-saving,
early diagnosis of breast cancer.

In honor of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, UR Medicine Breast Imaging is offering free mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 11 at two locations: at Highland Breast Imaging in Henrietta and at Strong West in Brockport.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 11 at Highland Breast Imaging, 500 Red Creek Drive, Suite 130, and at Strong West, 156 West Ave., Brockport.   Appointments are required. To get your mammogram in Henrietta, call (585) 487-3303; to schedule your mammogram in Brockport, call (585) 758-7501.

The Highland Breast Imaging Center has been offering free mammograms for the past nine years and has served hundreds of women who may not have been screened otherwise. Lack of transportation is often a barrier for uninsured/underinsured women, so offering free mammograms to them in a west side location aims to increase the number of area women who get this potentially life-saving screening this year. Mammography can detect breast cancer that is too small for women to find with a self-exam and early diagnosis is the best weapon in the fight against breast cancer.

Parking is free; refreshments and music will be provided to treat attendees to a relaxing experience. Women who cannot make the screening are encouraged to schedule an appointment for a different day by calling (585) 487-3303.
