Free Hip Pain Lecture November 11

Dr. Gillian Soles will present on non-surgical and surgical treatment options for arthritis, including a new option for hip joint replacement.

Friday, October 31, 2014

UR Medicine Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation is offering a free lecture on hip arthritis and the latest treatments for hip pain on Tuesday, November 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Perinton Community Center, Room 208B at 1350 Turk Hill Road, Fairport.

The lecture will be presented by Dr. Gillian Soles, an orthopaedic surgeon at Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital, and will feature innovative approaches to treatment, including the ‘anterior’ (frontal) approach to hip replacement surgery.

Highland Hospital is the only hospital in the region offering the anterior approach to hip replacement, an alternative approach which can minimize damage to tissue and may offer faster recovery for patients who qualify for this approach.

The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is required. To reserve a seat, call (585) 784-2999 or visit arthritisseminar.urmc.edu.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 4 people may develop painful hip arthritis in their lifetime. Hip joint replacement is one effective treatment for reducing pain and restoring physical function to people with this disabling condition.

Understanding the benefits and risks of treatment options is important to patients suffering from hip pain to ensure that short-term and long-term impacts to lifestyle can be considered.

UR Medicine Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation offers comprehensive orthopaedic care for patients including highly experienced, university-affiliated physicians, dedicated rehabilitation facilities throughout the area and the Evarts Joint Center at Highland Hospital, a Joint Commission accredited program for hip and knee replacements.
