What Does This Procedure Look For/Show

• This procedure is used to measure blood pressure in the arms and legs to determine if there is a difference in blood flow that may indicate blockage in the arteries of the legs.
• The procedure requires placing blood pressure cuffs on both arms and both ankles and measuring blood pressure readings with an ultrasound probe on the surface of the skin.
• After measuring blood pressures at rest, the patient is then asked to walk at a mild pace on a treadmill or march in place to simulate exercise.
• This procedure does not require an IV to be placed.

How Long Does This Procedure Take

This procedure takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

What Preparation is Required Prior To This Procedure

No preparation is needed for this procedure.

Who Performs/Interprets This Procedure

• The procedure is performed by a cardiac sonographer, nurse or technician.
• The device is interpreted by a cardiologist certified in vascular procedures.
