The Day Before Surgery

Call Us At (585) 341-6707 Between 1 and 4 pm to Verify Your Surgery Time

  • If you already have a surgery time, call to confirm it. Schedule changes can occur.
  • If your surgery is on Monday, call on Friday afternoon.
  • If your surgery is the day after a holiday, call before the holiday.

Plan Ahead

  • Call your doctor if you become ill before the procedure day.
  • Arrange for someone to drive you to the Hospital.
  • Plan to arrive 10 minutes early and go directly to the Highland Surgery Center. If you arrive late, there is a possibility that your surgery will be cancelled.
  • Arrange a ride home. Health standards require that a responsible adult must accompany any patient who has received anesthetics or sedatives and is going home the same day.
  • Make sure you do not wear any jewelry — wedding bands, rings, earrings, body piercings — or contact lenses to the Hospital.
  • See a list of what to bring and what not bring. The person or persons who accompany you can keep your belongings while you are in surgery. Or you can ask your nurse to store your personal items.
  • If you are scheduled for an overnight stay, pack a small bag with your personal items.
  • Review and follow the pre-surgical instructions given to you by the nurse about Eating and Medications. Remember not to chew gum or eat mints the day of surgery.
  • Gather your insurance card(s) and any completed paperwork sent to you. Plan to bring these materials with you to the hospital.
  • Plan to bring a magazine or a book to help you stay relaxed. We make every attempt to stay on schedule, but sometimes delays are unavoidable.
