"World AIDS Day" fine art by John Cianciotta

Retrospective pastel and colored pencil works by Rochester artist John Cianciotta are on display in Miner Library from November 2005 to January 2006.

Cianciotta is a self-taught artist who began his endeavors in the field of fine art in the late 1970s. "I've studied the works of many artists. My concepts and inspirations have most been influenced by the surrealist expressions found in works of Salvador Dali and Ramon Santiago. These two artists, as well as many other artists I have admired, have given me the drive and courage to express and expose myself ... to create images that hopefully evoke emotions and reactions in my contemporaries, the viewers, and collectors."

As part of a fundraiser for several local AIDS organizations, Cianciotta created original artwork, on display through Dec. 31 at the High Falls Center Art Gallery, 60 Brown's Race (free and open to the public; call 325-2030 for hours).

World AIDS Day theme posters, featuring Cianciotta's original artwork ($10 for UR students with I.D.; $15, others) are available at Miner Library. All proceeds support the Medical Center's HIV Vaccine Trials Unit and the Strong AIDS Clinic.
