"Prone," an exhibit of recent work by award-winning Rochester artist Sara Dankert, is on display through December 29 in the Edward G. Miner Library, University of Rochester Medical Center. Everyone is welcome to attend the opening reception on Friday, November 7, from 5-7 p.m.
Through her work, Dankert explores “One of the greatest irrationalities of humankind, the belief that a perfect system can be built. Every system is prone, exposed, and temporary.”
The three-dimensional, mixed media exhibit incorporates elements from bodily systems, which she chose because “the body is one of the most complex and fallible systems, yet also trusted and essential.” Paradox is plentiful in Dankert’s images. They are both playful and serious, innocent and analytical, spontaneous and precise.
In addition to her art work, Dankert works for CP Rochester providing direct care services for people with disabilities. She also advocates for artists with disabilities who receive services through CP Rochester. In October she helped two of those artists mount an art exhibition to share recent work and raise money for the annual Al Sigl Center WalkAbout fundraising drive.
Dankert received her BFA in Studio Art (Printmaking) from SUNY Brockport and her MSEd from Nazareth College.
