April 6 web cast: ownership & access in scholarly publishing

The Health Sciences and Human Services Library, University of Maryland (Baltimore) and the Johns Hopkins University Libraries are co-hosting a forum on open access publishing, Ownership and Access in Scholarly Publishing, on Wednesday, April 6, 2005, from 1 PM - 5 PM EST. You can view the web cast from your desktop computer. The forum is free and no registration is required.

The keynote speakers include:

• David Lipman, M.D., Director of the National Center for Biotechnology Information, NIH, who will address emerging issues in scientific publishing.
• Chi V. Dang, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Medicine, Oncology, Pathology, Molecular Biology & Genetics and Vice Dean for Research, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, who will speak on valuing new models of scholarship in promotion and tenure.

The keynote presentations will be followed by discussion among panel members representing the scientific and publishing communities.
