Using Ovid's Evidence Based Medicine Full Text Databases

Did you know you could search three of Ovid's full text Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) databases...Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, ACP Journal Club, and DARE (Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects)...at the same time?  To access Ovid EBM Reviews databases from our homepage, click on Major E-Resources A-Z on the left sidebar. When the Major E-Resources page appears, click on E on the alphabet at the top, to access EBM Reviews Full Text.

When searching these databases by keyword, the word may appear anywhere in the full text of the article. To read the full text of a search result, click on EBM Topic Review or EBM Article Review.

Here's a quick overview of the three databases:

  1. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, produced by the Cochrane Collaboration, provides reviews of the best controlled clinical trials for answering common clinical questions. The database provides both completed reviews and protocols for reviews under preparation. Systematic reviews are continually updated. Cochrane also provides a separate database of clinical trials: see EBM Reviews - Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials to search more than 300,000 references to controlled clinical trials.
  2. ACP Journal Club selects reports of the best controlled clinical trials and systematic review articles that are important to clinical practice from more than 100 journals.  ACP Journal Club summarizes these articles in structured abstracts that describe the objectives, methods, results, and evidence-based conclusions of studies. ACP Journal Club also provides brief commentaries. If reports become outdated, they are removed from the database.
  3. DARE (Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects) contains structured abstracts providing critical assessments of systematic reviews from a variety of medical journals.  DARE records cover topics such as diagnosis, prevention, rehabilitation, screening, and treatment. DARE is produced by England’s National Health Services' Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (NHS CRD).
