"Perspective" Photographic Exhibit by Babak Razavi

An exhibit of digital photographic prints by Dr. Babak Razavi is on display in Miner Library through June 30.

In the artist's own words

"This collection of photographs explores the intricate relationship between perspective and perception. The modern English word perspective derives from the Latin words per (through) and specere (to look). Angle, color (or lack of) and depth are common features that influence perspective and hence perception of an image.

The impact of these features certainly extends beyond their literal meaning and permeates every day life. Even the slightest change in perspective can render the once unfamiliar, familiar (and vice versa), cultivate new solutions to old problems, or rejuvenate old solutions for new problems. Perhaps each perspective provides a different window, allowing us to look through a truth that is otherwise incomprehensible in its entirety."

Dr. Razavi trained as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program at University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He received his M.D. on May 15 and will be defending his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering on June 12, 2009. He will do an internship in Internal Medicine at University of Rochester Medical Center this year, followed by a residency in Neurology at University of California in Davis.

Dr. Razavi's interest in photography unknowingly began at a young age when his father taught him how to take pictures using a Canon AE-1. His passion for photography is also shared by his wife, Anne. They both enjoy capturing a variety of themes including abstracts, nature, candids, weddings and each other.
