"Our Own Backyard,” a photographic exhibit featuring scenes from Western New York, by third-year medical student Erin Reeve, is on display through March in the Edward G. Miner Library, University of Rochester Medical Center. Erin selected the images for display from some 10,000 she has taken over the last five years.
When asked, Erin defines the word “beauty” as an external experience that internally moves the soul. One certainly experiences beauty when viewing Erin's images.
Erin attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh after graduating from Pittsford Mendon High School in 1998. A self-taught photographer, she received her first camera from a friend who wanted to unload his “old-fashioned” film camera for a new digital one. From then on, she was hooked! “Any time I go for a walk anywhere with scenery, water, or plants, I religiously take my camera.”
An avid volunteer, Erin donates her photography services whenever possible for fundraising events. She also volunteers musically at local nursing homes and is a member of the nationally known a cappella group, On Call. Someday, she hopes to help those in need by donating her medical expertise as well.
Miner Library is open Monday-Thursday, 7:30 am – midnight; Friday, 7:30 am – 10 pm; Saturday, 10 am – 10 pm; Sunday, 10 am – midnight. Call 585.275.3361 for holiday hours.
