These colorful photos were taken during Sol's travels in Nepal, India, and Thailand while a graduate student at the University of Rochester. Sol has "a passion for visiting exotic locales." His images capture the essence, beauty, and emotions of everyday life in these countries.
The son of a Kodak engineer, Sol Shaftel grew up in Rochester, NY. As soon as he could hold his father's large single-lens reflex camera, he began taking photographs.
Sol is in his final year of the University of Rochester's M.D./Ph.D. program. He earned his Ph.D. for work on inflammation and Alzheimer’s disease, and he will start his internship and residency in ophthalmology this summer.
