Cervical Spine Biopsy

Cervical Biopsy of the Spine using a 13G Bone Biopsy NeedleBiopsy of hemangioma with an extra osseous componentCervical spine biopsies can be performed with CT fluoroscopy. This is indicated for lesions of the cervical spine that are thought to be metastatic and if so, would change the management of the patient. With attention to details, the carotid artery, the esophagus and other vital structures in the neck can be avoided and good sample material can be obtained from the vertebral bodies with a low complication rate.

Biopsy of the cervical spine can be safely done with CT guidance. Image to the right is a case of hemangioma with an extra osseous component. The standard 13G bone biopsy needle is used.
