University Organization
The University is a private, co-educational, non-sectarian institution comprised of 6 principle units. On the River Campus of the University are the College (Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development), the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration, and Central Administration. The Eastman School of Music and the Memorial Art Gallery are located in downtown Rochester. The School of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Nursing, and Strong Memorial Hospital, located adjacent to River Campus, are the principal components of the Medical Center. Other campuses of the University are the South Campus, which includes the Laboratory for Laser Energetics and the Center for Optoelectronics and Imaging; the C.E.K. Mees Observatory at Bristol Hills; and the Mt. Hope Campus.
The University of Rochester has the much deserved reputation of being one of the top universities in the nation. Approximately 5,000 full-time undergraduate students and 2,700 part-time students are enrolled in the University. As a major employer in the Rochester area, the University employs approximately 8,000 full-time, 1,800 part-time and 1,000 temporary employees.
