Wnt Signaling in the Development of Pulmonary Vasculature

The interplay of the epithelium and mesenchyme is critical for the morphogenesis of the lung. We recently found that epithelial Wnt proteins participate in pulmonary vasculature formation. We are now investigating the underlying mechanisms using mouse genetic models and in vitro assays. We believe the knowledge obtained from these studies will provide insights into several lung diseases [e.g. alveolar capillary dysplasia (CAD) and bronchopulmonary disorder (BPD)] that include abnormal vasculature.
