Information Management Services for Researchers

Liaison Program

Your library liaison is your primary contact with Miner and can assist with your research in a variety of ways including:

• Free literature searches
• EndNote and/or RefWorks instruction and troubleshooting
• Instruction and help with PubMed, Web of Science, OMIM, Journal Citation Reports and other biomedical databases
• Advice on developing a search methodology
• Tips for staying current in your field

Go to Miner's Staff Directory to find your library liaison.

Systematic Reviews

Did you know that the Institute of Medicine, PRIMSA and the Cochrane Collaboration all recommend consulting with a librarian when developing a systematic review? Miner librarians are specially trained in developing search strategies and methodologies for systematic reviews that are exhaustive and retrieve all relevant articles. Miner librarians can collaborate with your research team to:

• Develop an appropriate search strategy for your question including identifying relevant terms
• Conduct literature searches in multiple databases
• Organize and maintain search results using tools such as EndNote, RefWorks and Excel
• Write or co-author the methodology portion of any resulting manuscript

Contact your liaison for a systematic review consultation.

NIH Public Access Policy Compliance

Do you have a paper to submit to PMC (formerly PubMed Central) or need help finding a PMCID number so you can cite a paper in a NIH progress report or grant application? Would you like a librarian to monitor the NIH Public Access compliance rate for your grant and notify you when papers have not been submitted to PMC? Miner librarians are knowledgeable about the policy and experienced with the NIH Manuscript Submission System. We can make compliance easier for you and your research team.

See Miner's NIH Public Access Policy page for detailed information including publisher policies or contact your liaison for assistance.

Animal Testing Alternatives

Miner's librarians can help you meet the literature search requirements of the Animal Welfare Act. Investigators doing their own literature search can consult with a librarian to develop relevant search strategies for their specific protocol. Alternatively, a librarian can perform the literature search for you. There is no charge for this service.

See Miner's Animal Testing Alternatives page for detailed information including several tip sheets.

EndNote and RefWorks Instruction and Troubleshooting

Miner supports both EndNote and RefWorks bibliographic citation management programs. These programs allow you to:

- Import citations from many databases including PubMed, Ovid Medline, CINAHL and Web of Science
- Create personal databases of citations
- Format bibliographies, references and manuscripts using many different citation styles

Your liaison can provide one-on-one training or group instruction for your research team. We can also troubleshoot issues that might arise with the programs. Visit our Writing, Citing & Publishing Guide for more information.

Classes/One-on-One Sessions

In addition to EndNote and RefWorks, Miner provides group and one-on-one instruction for all library-supported databases and technologies including PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Entrez Gene, OMIM, Blackboard and iPads.

Contact your liaison to arrange instruction or visit Miner's Classes page to register for a session.
