Asthma

You have been referred for an asthma consultation with a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of asthma.  Your visit to the Center will include a detailed medical history, physical exam, and possible testing to determine a diagnosis.  Please plan on spending a minimum of 1 hour at the Center

Asthma may occur at anytime to anyone. A chronic inflammatory disease of the airways, symptoms include shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing. Asthma is classified based on symptoms that range form mild (patients may need occasional therapy) to severe asthma or those who may require frequent hospitalizations.

Despite the advent of new and improved inhaled corticosteroids and other anti-inflammatory therapy, asthma is not a curable disease.

Effective asthma management requires a partnership between patients and their health care providers with the goal of identifying and avoiding asthma triggers, developing an asthma action plan, adherence to medication regimes and minimizing the side effects of therapy.

The team of specialists at the Mary Parkes Center treat hundreds of patients with a wide variety of asthma severity. Offering the latest equipment including measuring exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) and exhaled breath condensate (EBC) the Center is able to offer patients and out referring physicians the most up to date care in the treatment of asthma.
