Medical Resident Elective

The Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology Division offers two excellent electives in Clinical Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology (AIR) for medical residents. One is designed for first year residents and is taught solely in the ambulatory clinic. The other is designed for upper level residents, and combines ambulatory and consultative experiences. Due to the fact that all clinics are held off-site, neither of these electives are available to international residents.

Highlights of the First Year Resident Elective

  • 5 half days per week in ambulatory clinics working one-on-one with a faculty member focusing on history and physical exam, diagnostic laboratory studies, and diagnosis of the more common diseases
  • Division conferences to complement the patient care experience
  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound
  • Self-study course using Blackboard designed for the first year resident

Highlights of the Upper Level Resident Elective

  • 4-5 half days per week in ambulatory clinics working one-on-one with a faculty member focusing on history and physical exam, diagnostic studies, diagnosis of the more common diseases, and medication education and management
  • In-patient consultative experience
  • Division conferences to compliment the patient care experience
  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound
  • Self-study course using Blackboard designed for the first year resident
