Divisions of Medicine Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) The Aab Cardiovascular Institute prides itself on understanding how the cardiovascular system develops and responds to physiological and pathological changes. Understanding these processes will provide insight into new therapeutic approaches to treat diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, stroke, myocardial infarction, and arrhythmias. Allergy/Immunology/Rheumatology The division of Allergy/Immunology/Rheumatology deals with musculoskeletal, autoimmune, and allergic diseases. Cardiology The division of Cardiology provides a full spectrum of cardiac care including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, for virtually any condition that you have regarding the care and treatment of your heart. Endocrinology/Metabolism The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry consists of a diverse cadre of physicians and scientists with interests in all aspects of Endocrinology and Diabetes. Gastroenterology and Hepatology The division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology provides inpatient and outpatient consultation and treatment for gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases. General Medicine The General Medicine Division provides clinical care in the ambulatory and hospital settings. Faculty members play integral roles in the internal medicine, combined internal medicine-pediatric residency programs and medical school educational programs. Geriatrics and Aging The division of Geriatrics and Aging is one of the newest to the Department of Medicine. The geriatricians that specialize here focus on promoting health, and work to prevent and treat diseases and disabilities that affect older adults. Hematology/Oncology The Hematology/Oncology Division of the Department of Medicine is a major component of the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center (JPWCC), providing exceptional care for people with cancer. Our team offers the latest and most effective therapies in a compassionate setting. We specialize in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research aimed at improving cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and the education of our next generation of oncologists and scientists. Hospital Medicine The Hospital Medicine division is committed to providing the highest level of inpatient care and working collaboratively with primary care physicians and specialists in the care of mutual patients. Infectious Diseases The Infectious Diseases Division engages in a wide range of patient care, research, and educational programs. Expert inpatient and outpatient care, research programs in clinical virology and vaccine development, and educational and fellowship training programs are conducted in an exciting, highly collaborative environment at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Nephrology The Nephrology division provides all of the inpatient and outpatient nephrology care to patients at both Strong and Highland hospitals. Inpatient care revolves around acute consults, often of patients with renal failure, and provision of dialysis services as needed. Palliative Care The Palliative Care division is devoted to caring for the seriously ill and providing relief from pain and other physical symptoms, improving the quality of life, and assisting the patient, family and staff with difficult medical decision making. Pulmonary/Critical Care The division of Pulmonary and Critical Care serves as a referral base for patients with complex lung diseases and critical illnesses, and was recently recognized as one of the Top Programs in Respiratory Diseases in the United States by the U.S. News and World Report.
