Core Laboratory Director/Mass Spectrometry Director

Stephen L. Welle has been with the University since early 1980s. He heads the core laboratory component of the CRC and is also involved in teaching and independent research as Professor of Medicine in the Endocrinology Unit. He acquired his PhD in Neurobiology with his fellowship in the field of Endocrinology and Metabolism. Steve has over 85 peer-reviewed publications related to body composition, energy and protein metabolism, aging, muscle biology, and gene expression.

Core Laboratory Supervisor

Noya Rackovsky, MS coordinates and supervises laboratory personnel to ensure quality control and timely reporting of results from assays performed in the lab for CRC investigators. She is first in line for reviewing CRC protocol submission packets related to Core lab needs and develops functional new assays as needed by investigators. In addition, Noya oversees the operation of the CRC’s Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) scanner.
