Debra Ossip-Klein, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Community and Preventive Medicine
University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Chief - Division of Social and Behavioral Medicine Director - Smoking Research Program
Dr. Ossip-Klein's work has focused on large-scale interventions for tobacco cessation, including quitlines, web and print materials, and health care provider interventions. She currently has a multi-county NCI-funded randomized controlled trial underway examining the effectiveness of proactive telephone counseling and encouragement to use pharmacotherapy for 1200 older smokers with a recent failed quit attempt. A second NIH-funded trial is examining the development of tobacco control capacity in the Dominican Republic, with opportunities for postdoctoral fellows to examine data specific to older adults. Projects by other Smoking Research Program faculty include a national survey of nursing homes for policies, attitudes, and practices regarding smoking among residents, and a pilot project of web- and palm-pilot assisted interventions with older smokers by primary care physicians.
