He has served as chairman of the Lymphoma Committee of the Southwest Oncology Group since 1985, and is the author of more than 260 scientific papers dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of lymphomas, melanoma, ovarian and adrenal cancers. He is the former Director of the Cardinal Bernadin Cancer Center at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago. In September 2000 he became the Director of the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and is Director of Cancer Services for Strong Health.  His ongoing work on Phase II and III trials could easily accommodate a geriatrics / gerontology research
