Interdisciplinary Geriatric Fellowship
Interdisciplinary Geriatric Fellowship - Medicine, Psychiatry, and Dentistry
Sponsored by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
The Interdisciplinary Geriatric Fellowship is a program designed for medical, dental, and psychiatry trainees with a career goal of becoming an effective clinician educator. This two-year program provides each fellow with traditional clinical experiences in their respective disciplines, while also enhancing interdisciplinary experiences through common core clinical, didactic, research, and administrative activities.
Geriatric psychiatry and medicine fellows completing the two-year fellowship will be eligible for subspecialty geriatric board certification. Clinical experiences include unique interdisciplinary geriatric assessment clinics targeting underserved populations. Fellows also participate in an innovative Academic Career Development Course, developed in conjunction with the University of Rochester's Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, with the goal of preparing the next generation of geriatric academic leaders.
The course curriculum provides trainees with the skills to successfully develop, implement, and evaluate academic geriatric programs; learn the necessary teaching and leadership skills; integrate public health precepts into quality improvement initiatives; and relate more effectively with patients, families, and professional colleagues.
